Love Island USA Season 8 was this summer’s hottest new show. It was the No. 1 streaming reality series for five consecutive weeks, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the series generated 10.73 billion viewing minutes –   which is up 23% from last season. Nielsen’s streaming data had the show in the number one spot of viewing minutes for the second week of July. Additionally, Aftersun, the recap show now hosted by Ciara Miller and Tefi Pessoa, has seen a 144% audience increase since last season.

The show’s near-daily release schedule creates habitual viewing behavior, encouraging audiences to return consistently rather than binge an entire season over a weekend. That frequency gives brands repeated opportunities to reach engaged viewers across multiple touchpoints.

With viewership numbers like these, one question comes to mind: What does this mean for advertisers?

This isn’t just about impressions. It’s about becoming part of the conversation.

The popularity of Love Island USA created an opportunity for brands to do more than simply advertise during the show. They could either show up business as usual or intentionally build campaigns that became part of the viewing experience. Brands like CeraVe and Maybelline leaned into the moment by creating custom challenges that were fully integrated into the show, airing commercials featuring former contestants, and extending their campaigns across Love Island USA’s social channels.

For some brands, Love Island became more than a sponsorship opportunity.

Last summer, the prebiotic soda brand Poppi partnered with Season 7 winner Amaya Espinal to launch a limited-edition flavor: Amaya’s Island Colada. This summer, they brought another old flavor back now labeled Punch Pop x Love Island, turning it into the centerpiece of a much larger campaign.

The campaign extended far beyond the product itself. Poppi paired the launch with retail displays, in-show integrations, a partnership with fan-favorite contestant Olandria Carthen, live fan experiences, and social content that kept the brand connected to the conversation throughout the season.

As Poppi’s Vice President of Culture, Sophia Sesto, told Modern Retail:

“Rather than treating Love Island as a standalone sponsorship, we used it as the centerpiece of our summer marketing strategy. Every aspect was designed to give fans new ways to engage with the show and with Poppi throughout the season.”

The Real Winner of Love Island? Smart Marketing.

Today’s advertising landscape isn’t just about reaching consumers; it’s about reaching them in the right context. Impressions still matter, but the brands that stand out are the ones that make those impressions feel relevant. Instead of simply appearing alongside the content people love, they’re becoming part of the experience itself.

As streaming continues to shape how audiences consume media, marketers have an opportunity to think beyond traditional placements. Success isn’t simply about reaching audiences at scale. It’s about understanding how people watch, engage, and participate.

At MSM, we use those behaviors to help brands connect with audiences in meaningful ways. The question isn’t just whether your audience will see your ad. It’s whether your brand becomes part of the moment.
